1. Search
Please use the Google search tool below to find what you are looking for.
Note: If using the French language or searching French websites don't forget to use
accented letters where appropriate, it can make all the difference!
For Accented Letters - see the next section.
2. Accented Letters
Method 1 - Copy and Paste
- Refer to the Table of ASCII Codes in the right-hand
column
- Double-click on the letter required and press Ctrl-C (to Copy the letter)
- Click where you require the letter and press Ctrl-V (to Paste the letter into your document, form
etc.)
You can use this method in any program or form or search box on an Internet page.
Method 2 - Use of ASCII codes
- Refer to the Table of ASCII Codes in the right-hand
column
- Identify the letter you require and note the code number next to it
- Place the cursor where you require the letter
- Hold down ALT
- Enter the code on your numeric keypad (See note 2)
- Let go ALT
Notes:
- This method works in almost any program except Microsoft Word!
(Word has dedicated keystrokes for accented letters - see Word's help pages for details).
- The numeric keypad is the group of keys to the right of the main keys. On Notebook computers the numeric
keypad is usually found within the main keys - usually marked with small coloured numbers and used in
conjunction with a matching coloured "Fn" (Function) key.
- If you use this method a lot you may wish to print the list of
codes
3. Pages Jaunes tips...
Avoid the English version - it's
slower and not so good
(IMHO).
Pages Jaunes is excellent for aerial photos of France
Broadband recommended - high resolution images.
The quality of Pages Jaunes aerial photos is often better than Google Maps but Pages Jaunes is not so easy to
use. Here's how I do it...
- Select Pages Jaunes from the left menu on this search page
- In the Quoi? box enter restaurant (there's bound to be at
least one!)
- In the Où? box enter the name of the nearest town or city.
- Hit the Rechercher button
- Click on Vue aérienne on one of the listed results
- Select Zoom level from the menu on the right
- Click and drag the photo to your area of interest
NB. You can email this view to a friend (select
Envoyer à un ami)
but remember, your friend will be sent the co-ordinates of your starting point! Don't wander too far away
- find a better starting point first!
